NEW XPRIA

If you look at the last 30 Sony Xperia concepts published on this site, they’re all rectangular devices and every time I post one to Facebook it gets dozens of likes and shares. Back when this website started, in 2008, we had crazy good sci-fi concepts of Sony Ericsson devices, like the one below. This post is about things that will never happen…

Two Things Well Never Have: a Nokia Phone With Android and an Xperia With Futuristic Design
A quick look at the statistics related to this website shows that many of you are looking for a “Nokia Android phone“, although we all know that can’t happen. The closest we’ve come to it is a Nokia N9 with some heavy mods and hacks and Jelly Bean barely running on it. Still there are some good renders of such phones and even a Nexus Nokia was imagined.
Two Things Well Never Have: a Nokia Phone With Android and an Xperia With Futuristic Design
Another thing that may never happen is a cool Sony Ericsson phone with an EVOLVED design. Sony keeps sticking to the same awful rectangles, with the same waterproof and dust proof thing and don’t get me started on those lids for ports! Glass was bad on Xperia Z, that creepy edge is awful on the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra is actually the only decent looking new model they have, but it’s too big.
What happened, folks? When did Nokia and Sony lose desire for making something beautiful?

The same Oky Aditya who created this appealing Xperia render came up with the Sony Xperia Trail, shown below.  This device is supposed to be a limited edition unit, with high end specs that include a 5 inch Triluminos display.

Xperia Trail is a Limited Edition Phone With Funky Buttons
Said display supports a Full HD resolution, X Reality technology and 16 million colors shown. The handset is waterproof and dust proof and also resilient to scratches. Xperia Trail integrates a 20.7 megapixel camera with G Lens, Sony Exmor RS for mobile image sensor and a front 5 MP camera. There’s support for 4K video recording offered by the back camera, by the way.
Nice to see we have a special corner of the device dedicated to hanging lanyards or stuff like that. Also, I see that the camera has been moved from the corner to the center of the upper back and that the volume buttons and camera button on the side are quite unusually designed. Other than that this model feels very much like Xperia Z and the Z1…

Sony Xperia Haze Render by Oky Aditya

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

From Oky Aditya comes a brand new Sony Xperia concept, a model called Xperia Haze. The handset features a bunch of modern features that will become standard over the following years, such as the Xperia fingerprint security and eye scanner security.

The device is so secure, that it even features a third authentication method, via an NFC security lock. Sony Xperia Haze packs an Nvidia GeForce graphics accelerator (GTX300 for mobile) and inside the phone we find the Sony XposeD quad core CPU at 2.7 GHz. The phone runs Android 4.4 KitKat and has an Xperia last projector keyboard, plus a 20.7 MP back camera with G Lens.
Upfront there’s a 5 inch Full HD Triluminos display with X Reality tech and by the way, this smartphone is both dust and water resistant, something usual for Sony. There’s a crazy 8 GB of RAM inside and 128 GB of storage. Finally, we’ve got a Li-Ion 5000 mAh battery with a cooling system and support for 4K video recording.
As if this wasn’t enough, you can even upgrade the handset’s hardware via a special Xperia Ware Improve centre. How cool is this?

Sony Xperia T1 Concept Follows in the Footsteps of Z1 5)

After the Xperia Z1, a new road for naming patterns of Sony Xperia handsets has been opened and Ben Ling is quick to follow it with a fresh concept. Meet the Sony Xperia T1, pictured below and adopting the pretty much standardSony design.

Sony Xperia T1 Concept Follows in the Footsteps of Z1
We’re dealing with a 4.7 inch handset with a 16 megapixel FHD camera with Sony G Lens and a 1/2.8 inch Exmor RS sensor. The screen uses X Reality technology and Dragontrail glass, plus it supports multitouch for up to 10 fingers and offers a 469 ppi pixel density, way more than the human eye can see.
Apparently there’s a new type of flash available, a CRI LED, whatever that is. Specs include BIONZ for mobile technology, a quad core Snapdragon 800 CPU, 16 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a 3100 mAh battery. We also get Android 4.3.1 and PlayStation certification, as well as NFC, HD voice and a case that measures 8.7 mm in thickness.
The Sony Xperia T1 concept weighs 155 grams and it has a removable battery, in case you’re wondering.

Sony Xperia Edge is a 5 Inch Smartphone With Android 4.4, Too Much RAM

Sent to us by Oky Aditya, the Sony Xperia Edge concept phone is a powerhouse with 8 GB of RAM, way too much for merely running Android 4.4 KitKat. The device is a 5 inch handset with certification for water, dust and scratch resilience.

Sony Xperia Edge is a 5 Inch Smartphone With Android 4.4, Too Much RAM
Inside it we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000 futuristic CPU, a quad core 2.7 GHz processor with Krait 500 cores. The GPU is a GeForce GTX 300 for mobile, which is a bit strange, since Nvidia would never let Qualcomm borrow their tech. We’ve got the full array of sensors here, 128 GB of storage included and Bluetooth 4.0 on board as well.
There’s NFC, USB on the go, MHL, a 20.7 megapixel camera on board with 1/2.3 inch sensor and a 5 MP front cam. The battery on the Xperia Edge is a giant, a 5000 mAh unit, even bigger than the one of a Nexus 7. I find it hard to believe you can fit such a brick inside a phone without making it huge.
Finally, the handset has a special Xperia fingerprint security system and wireless charging support.

Sony Xperia Z3 is Ready to do Battle With Galaxy Note 4

With the first rumors about the Xperia Z2 and Galaxy S5 starting to appear, we have to think even further and dream about 2015. Uva7 Dance sent us a brand new design of a device that he calls the Sony Xperia Z3 concept.

Sony Xperia Z3 is Ready to do Battle With Galaxy Note 4
This is a mega phablet of 2015 with some high end specs that may actually happen in the future. We’ve got a 6 inch UHD screen, a TFT IPS with a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution and an Intel Atom 4 quad clocked at 3 GHz inside. There’s 4 GB of RAM included among the specs and the Xperia Z3 also comes with 128 GB of storage, 128 GB extra via microSD and a 20 megapixel camera with 4K video capture and optical stabilization.
There’s an 8 megapixel front camera, stereo sound, a 6000 mAh battery with porous silicon nanoparticles and Android 6 as the OS. The whole device measures just 6.1 mm in thickness. The design feels like a combo between the Xperia Z and the Galaxy Note 3, with very, very slim bezels. I like the top/bottom speaker quite a lot, I have to say.

Sony Xperia Z2 Gets Rendered and Specced by Ben Ling

Yes, we’re back folks after we had some trouble with the hosting and the first device to mark the return is a Sony. The handset is Sony Xperia Z2, that has actually leaked on the web last week in a less than convincing shot.

Sony Xperia Z2 Gets Rendered and Specced by Ben Ling
This render was created by Ben Ling, who imagines the Xperia Z2 as some sort of phablet with a 5.5 inch Triluminous Display with X Reality technology. The screen supports a Full HD resolution and we’ve got a 20.7 megapixel camera at the backwith Xenon flash and 1/2.3 inch sensor. There’s 16x digital zoom and an Exmor RS sensor for image and video.
Under the hood of the Z2 we find a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, so everything feels like the Xperia Z1 was transplanted to a bigger screen unit. This model is both dust and water resistant and it uses 3 GB of RAM, as well as 32 GB of storage. Luckily we also get a microSD card slot and a 3200 mAh battery.
The design keeps the edges of the Xperia Z1 and the trademark metal Power button, plus we get a physical camera button this time. Other than that the Xperia Z2 feels short and buffed up.
[Thanks Ben Ling]

Ben Ling has created a bunch of Sony concept phones so far and here’s a new one, after a long period of break. The Sony Xperia ZP is the name here and the device feels like some fort of Xperia Z Mini, if I can call it that way.

The phone’s design is pretty basic, your usual rectangular, but the extra plastic edges make me think of those not so appealing edges of the HTC One Mini, if you know them. The Xperia ZP packs a 4.55 inch HD Triluminous display with X Reality for mobile and a 720p resolution. Below you can see a comparison between the Sony Xperia ZP and Xperia SP.

We’ve got a 13 megapixel camera with HDR and LED flash at the back, an Exmor RS sensor for image and video, 16x digital zoom and Full HD video recording. There’s a quad core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor inside, a removable battery and PlayStation Certification. The device measures 7.6 mm in thickness, features NFC and it’s both dust and water proof.
We’ve got 2 GB of RAM, 4G LTE, Android 4.3, 16 GB of storage and a Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery. What do you think of this render?

Sony Detachable Lens Accessories Rendered Strapped to an Xperia Phone

Straight from the Esato board comes a new concept, a render of a Sony detachable lens, that’s attached to an Xperia phone. I have to remind you that this accessory is supposed to bring smartphones pretty much to the level of DSLRs.

Sony Detachable Lens Accessories Rendered Strapped to an Xperia Phone
Sony is rumored to have developed two camera lenses, codenamed DSC-QX10 and DSC-WX100, that can be magnetically attached to a phone or even a tablet. They’re not just lenses, but rather complex mechanisms, that also include a built in sensor, BIONZ processor, WiFi/NFC wireless connection and SD card slots.

They are controlled via the smartphone and will work on both iOS and Android. The DSC-QX10 is supposed to come with a RX100MII sensor and Zeiss lens, while the other will use a 10x zoom lens with a 1/2.3 inch 18 megapixel CMOS sensor. Supposedly, we’ll get to see both next week at IFA 2013. The concepts here were created by Esato board user Reeflotz.

Sony Google Nexus 5 Concept Gets Rendered and Priced by Ben Ling

Ben Ling is known on our website for the impressive amount of Sony Xperia renders he created and now he’s back with a Sony Nexus phone. The device is actually called Sony Google Nexus 5 and it even has some prices attached to it. The smartphone is supposed to go for $349 in the 16 GB version or $399 in the 32 GB version.

Sony Google Nexus 5 Concept Gets Rendered and Priced by Ben Ling
This is a 4.6 inch Full HD Triluminos display with X Reality for Mobile technology and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. At the back there’s a 20.7 megapixel camera with LED flash and HDR, as well as an Exmor RS sensor for mobile. There’s a Sony G Lens used here and a 1/2.3 inch sensor, plus BIONZ for mobile tech and 16x digital zoom.
The camera does Full HD video recording and also 4K video recording. Inside the Sony Google Nexus 5 there’s a quad core Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz processor, a removable battery and 2 GB of RAM. The handset weighs 122 grams and measures 8.5 mm in thickness. It runs Android 4.3, has an LED illumination bar and 4G LTE support. There’s HD voice support and a Li-ion 3050 mAh battery.
Finally, Ben Ling’s concept features a design that deviates from the usual Sony approach, by making the device wider than usual. What do you think about it?
